Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard about the new Glock 43X and Glock 48, which were officially unveiled on January 2, 2019. Soon, people jumped on social media to voice their opinions on the guns. Before you actually see it, handle it or shoot it. I admit I had my opinion on both pistols when Glock introduced them, but I like shiny new things so I was looking forward to the review.

I knew my first experience with them would be at the next shooting show in 2019. I wasn't excited to add more workload before heading to Vegas on Sunday, but I couldn't turn down the offer to test drive the Glock 43X and Glock 48.
Glock 43 Magguts
Originally I was going to do separate reviews for each of these columns, but they are so similar that I decided to combine them both into one review. The difference is that the Glock 43X is similar in length to the Glock 43 and the Glock 48 is similar in length to the Glock 19.
First off, I want to say that I am not a fan of the Glock. But I'm not a Glock hater either. I currently carry a Glock 19 MOS and a Glock 43 depending on what I'm wearing during the day. However, I recently switched to carrying a Glock in early 2018. Before that, I carried a Springfield Armory XD Mod.2. I will understand the reason for the change in another article. The XD has been my favorite EDC since it came out in 2014. Before switching to the XD, I carried a Glock 26, a Glock 23, and my first carry pistol, a Taurus PT-140, until it broke during a weekend pistol course. .
I am saying this to show that I am not wedded to one manufacturer or gun. I have owned a number of Berettas and still enjoy shooting them. I grew up shooting Berettas. The only handguns I remember my father having were the Beretta and the cowboy gun, I don't remember the model. I don't carry them around and I don't use them as home defense pistols. They are nostalgic for me and fun to shoot at the range.
Now let's move on to the actual review. Here are the specs for both the Glock 43X and the Glock 48. I've also added some other popular pistols for comparison.

Building on the success of the Glock 42 .380 and Glock 43 9mm, the Glock 43X and Glock 48 are both single-action 9mm pistols. Glock classifies them as the Silver Slimline series. Both have the same grip length as the Glock 19 Compact. When I first saw the words "Glock 43X" I thought it was a Glock 43 with a longer barrel and slide. But no, they went the Glock 19X route, lengthened the grip and kept the barrel and slide the same on the 43X. In the case of the Glock 48, it's basically a single stack Glock 19 watered down.
Silver nPVD coated sliders and front skid plates are two other standout features. Whether they will offer a standard all-black pistol remains to be seen. The sights on both guns I received are standard factory polymer sights, but steel sights and night sights are also available.
The grip finish is the same as the Glock 43, with squares (or pyramids) that don't stick out as much as the finish on the Gen 4 and Gen 5 models. Also, the Glock43X and Glock 48 are not Gen 5, but the magazine has the Gen 5 model. There are orange followers like One thing I have noticed is that the 43X fits perfectly in the holster I have for my Glock 43.

Whether or not I thought any of these handguns would fit into my concealed carry, I was still eager to get to the range and shoot. We arrived at the next outdoor gun range. I recommend shooting at least 250 rounds in each to see how they fire, check for any malfunctions, and actually shoot one to see if you change your mind. I was going to. Both of these pistols had already shot through about 250 rounds.
It was a rather chilly morning in Louisiana with temperatures around 40 degrees. Loading 500 rounds into a 10 round magazine was not fun to say the least as my fingers were already sore from the rough jiu-jitsu class the day before.
But I enjoyed shooting both pistols. Let me start by saying that the Glock 43X and Glock 48 had no malfunctions. Both guns worked well and were more accurate than mine. I immediately remembered why I needed to go to the range to practice more often, one of my 2019 resolutions.
Did you enjoy shooting the G43X and G48 over the G43? Yes. But for the same reason I enjoy shooting with the G19 more than the G43 and it gives me perfect grip. The Glock 48 also didn't feel as snappy as the smaller barreled G43X. Interestingly, the G43X seemed to shoot better than the 48. I enjoyed shooting the 43X and 48, but when I picked up the G19 with the Trijicon RMR Type 2, I quickly realized how much fun it was to shoot my favorite EDC. it just felt right to me.

That means a Glock 43 with more grip (Glock 43X) and a single stack Glock 19 (Glock 48). As I said earlier, I didn't think either of these would replace what I have now. The Glock 48 does not have accessory rails and is too thin to mount a red dot. I wouldn't replace a Glock 19 with a Glock 48 just to reduce the width by 4mm, as it appears to do. When I can't, I carry a Glock 43. I carry a 43 because some lockers print a 19 because of the grip. So I'm not interested in the 43X.
Everyone had different wants and needs, so what worked for me might not work for the next. My wife started taking pictures last year and to my surprise she really enjoyed it. I have. Of all my pistols, she chose the Springfield Armory XD as her perfect pistol. So I took a quiz with her. I told her to hold the G19 and see how it felt. I then gave her the G48 and she also really liked the feel. The stack pistol fits her tiny hand perfectly.
She doesn't have storage space right now, but she loves to shoot at the range, so I think a Glock 48 would be the perfect gun for her. You can get more rounds...and the G48 gives it a longer barrel that isn't It's not as nice as a shorter undercompressed barrel. Now that the anniversary is approaching, I have a feeling Glock is making money again.
